Perched atop Havana’s historic Castillo de la Real Fuerza, La Giraldilla is the oldest statue in Cuba made of Bronze, created in 1632 (XVII). This elegant sculpture has become one of the most beloved and recognizable symbols of the city.
Inspired by the legend of Doña Isabel de Bobadilla, who waited endlessly for her husband,  he was appointed governor and left Cuba to explore Florida, Isabel stayed behind, watching the sea every day from the fortress, waiting for his return. Sadly, he never came back, having died during the expedition.La Giraldilla symbolizes eternal love, loyalty, and hope.
